New England Leaf Out Project

New England Leaf Out Project (NELOP), based at Boston University, and Project BudBurst are partnering together to help investigate the effects of climate change on New England trees. NELOP researchers plan to combine Project BudBurst on-the-ground observations with remote sensing to determine whether trees are leafing out earlier in New England than they did in the past due to warming temperatures.

To get started, find trees in your area from the plants listed on the right. In the spring, use a Project BudBurst Regular Report to monitor your selected trees and look for the first signs of leaf out.
