  Abilities necessary to do scientific inquiry: Design and conduct a scientific investigation
Science Content Standard C: Life Science
  Structure and Function: Each type of cell, tissue, and organ has a distinct structure and set of functions that serve the organism as a whole.
  Regulation and Behavior: Regulation of an organism's internal environment involves sensing the internal environment and changing physiological activities to keep conditions within the range required to survive.
  Diversity and Adaptations of Organisms: Biological adaptations include changes in structures, behaviors, or physiology that enhance survival and reproductive success in a particular environment.
 
Standards for the English Language Arts
Literacy Standards
  Standard 5: Students employ a wide range of strategies as they write and use different writing process elements appropriately to communicate with different audiences for a variety of purposes.
  Standard 7: Students conduct research on issues and interests by generating ideas and questions, and by posing problems. They gather, evaluate, and synthesize data from a variety of sources to communicate their discoveries in ways that suit their purpose and audience.
  Standard 12: Students use spoken, written, and visual language to accomplish their own purposes.
