Blackgum (also known as black tupelo) is a deciduous tree with oval to obovate shaped leaves that have wavy margins and are shiny on top. The flowers occur in small, greenish-white clusters.
Blackgum is considered a good honey tree. In the wild, it is often found growing with flowering dogwood, yaupon, and black cherry trees. Blackgum fruits are popular with birds and bears and the twigs are often browsed by deer.
