Also known as the yellow pond lily, this plant has large, heart-shaped floating leaves and yellow flowers that bloom in the spring or summer.
Spadderdock is an aquatic plant that is often found along lake edges and in ponds throughout the Eastern US. The leaves float on the surface of the water and are attached to the substrate by long thick stems. Some leaves grow below the surface near the very bottom of the stem. The yellow flowers generally appear above the water and are generally on different stems than the leaves. The flowers eventually turn into oval-shaped fruits that split open when ripe to release the seeds.
