Fragrant, reddish-purple, flower clusters are the hallmark of this very showy ornamental shrub. It is a large, deciduous shrub that generally grows between 12 and 16 feet. This cloned plant was introduced from China, it is not invasive. A key distinction between Chinese lilac and common lilac is that the leaves are almost twice as long as they are wide compared to the much broader leaves of the common lilac.

Identification hints
