ATTRIBUTES
Leaves
Leaves are bamboo-like, up to 10 inches long by 1 inch wide and hairless. Leaf sheathes are mostly hairless, but the ligules are fringed with fine hairs.
Flowers
Flowers are grouped in a panicle of spikelets; the lateral stalks that hold the spikelets are drooping. The lateral branches have 2-6 spikelets that are flat and broad (about 1" long by .5" wide). Each floret has two stigmas and a single anther.
Fruits
The grains turn white in mid-summer and brown when they are ripe.
