This perennial prairie grass grows from 5 to 6 feet tall. It forms long flowering panicles of about 20 inches.

Identification hints

The leaves have sharp serrated edges. It blooms from late July to mid September. Prairie cordgrass prefers wet habitats.  It has a dense rhizomes system that forms mats and stabilizes soil.
