Leaves are long (up to 3 ft or ~ 1 m), slender, and upright-to-arching with sharp tips, rough margins, and silvery midribs. It has very short, inconspicuous rhizomes. Flowers appear in late summer or fall and are silvery to pink in color, large, and feather-like. The grass turns a rich golden brown in winter.
