The yellow petal-like ray flowers have greenish-tinged veins while the disc flowers in the center of the head can have maroon colored floral parts. Soft green eyes is distinguishable from its relative Florida greeneyes (B. subacaulis), because its forms a tall flower stalk before blooming while Florida greeneyes does not.
