Small deciduous single trunk tree or multi-stemmed shrub. Tree growth up to 25 ft tall. As a shrub it suckers readily and can form large colonies. Five petaled white flowers with an unpleasant scent in spring.

Identification hints

Wild plums produce edible round plums with yellow pulp about 1" diameter ripen in summer. Toothed oblong ovate leaves are 3-4 in. long turning from yellow to red in fall. The tree displays reddish brown branches and twigs and a short crooked trunk with scaled black bark.
