   In this lesson, students are introduced to the anchoring phenomenon, seasonal change in plants. They learn about phenology and draw on their own experiences to illustrate seasonal changes in living things. Finally, they learn how these changes are driven by seasonal variation in weather through class discussion and a text.

   The Plants, They Are A-Changin'

   In this lesson, students are introduced to Budburst and their driving question - why do plants change at certain times? They explore seasonal changes in plants and practice identifying and describing some deciduous tree phenophases. Finally, they discover some reasons why plants change seasonally via group discussion and reading/interpreting a text. They can also be introduced to their Seasonal Plant Scavenger Hunt. This activity can be used throughout the curriculum to review concepts and encourage students to carefully observe the plants in their environment

   What's My Plant Type?

   Students explore how plants can vary in structure and phenology as they practice identifying different Budburst plant groups and species. They first learn about (and compare/contrast) the five Budburst plant groups (grasses, conifers, deciduous trees and shrubs, wildflowers and herbs, and broadleaf evergreens). They then learn how to find and identify their Budburst plant species.
