Important Announcement:Budburst is shutting down
Learn more.We have come to the difficult decision that we need to shut down Budburst operations at the end of this calendar year.
Dear Budburst Contributor,
We have come to the difficult decision that we need to shut down Budburst operations at the end of this calendar year, 2026, due to the current funding environment. The website and app will discontinue at midnight December 31st. The data will be available on the Chicago Botanic Garden website and archived at the National Phenology Network.
We want to thank you for all your support over the past 20 years. We have been fortunate to support climate change education and research engaging over 35,000 community scientists over that time and collecting nearly 150,000 data points resulting in dozens of research papers. For future phenology observations we recommend iNaturalist or the National Phenology Network’s Nature’s Notebook.
It has been our pleasure and privilege to work with you, and we hope you continue to contribute to the scientific understanding of the impacts of climate change on the environment.
Best,
Taran Lichtenberger, Budburst Community Engagement Manager
